Unless you change your name to something obscure, chances are that there will be quite a few other people in the World who share your moniker, and as Internet usage grows, so does the probability that others with your name will have an online presence, and the probability that a search for your name will find other people and not you.
Most people's friends and family will know how to find each other online through social-networking websites, blogs and personal websites, so search engine visibility for one's own name probably isn't that important - certainly not as important as a high-ranking for your company name if you run a business.
Naturally, if you're a celebrity, or if your name is your trading name, you'll want to be found for a search for your name. For me, it's similarly important because of my search engine expertise - people will expect to find me. There's also the "because it's there" motivation of the challenge itself.
