Tuesday. I like Tuesdays.

I'm ignoring things that might conspire to ruin my day and focussing on positive productivity.

Images

I've been aware for some time of the potential need for a better image management system, and developing Typomania has helped me to focus on this somewhat. It's day enough to upload images directly into a page or to an image gallery, but there's no way of selecting a previously uploaded image for use in a different page from the original one.

I don't think I can consolidate my thinking on this issue completely in one go, but I do think I should address one of the fundamentals - organising the uploaded images, potentially by date, in order to make them more, well, manageable.

The problem

The main problem at that traditionally images uploaded to the MJB CMS, (now called Typomania), are first moved to a directory called 'originals'. They are then copied to another directory 'inline', and resized if necessary. This means that in order to create a system for navigating through previously uploaded images I need to either scan the 'originals' directory and assess every file, or create a new 'images' database.

It probably might make sense to use a database anyway, but there's also a case for storing images in directories that correspond to dates. Thinking time....

The solution

I think I need more time to think. I've updated the image manager but I'm still not quite sure what should happen when someone clicks the 'attach an image' link to add an image to an existing page or paragraph...
